The Navy Cricket Club is open to all Navy personnel, civilians and the wider community. The club is based at the Ngataringa Sports Ground where training is held and all games are played. The Cricket Club is affiliated to the Auckland Cricket Association (ACA). All the RNZN Cricket Clubs games are played at the Ngataringa Sports Grounds.
The Cricket Club plays in the ACA One Day 40 Over competitions on a Saturday afternoon from 1130 to 1800 and is in the 2nd top One Day Grade. There are eight teams in the grade and the grade is run with two round robins (Home and Away) before breaking off at the end of the season for Top Four and Bottom Four playoffs before reaching a finals day where 1st plays 2nd and 3rd plays 4th etc etc.
The cricket season runs from the last Saturday in October through to the last Saturday in March. There is a maximum of 18 games with games during the Christmas leave period. Practices usually begin as early as the last week of September and are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1615 until 1800. Teams’ selections are based on availability, commitment to the team and to trainings.
Subscriptions to RNZN Cricket Club are $60 and if the individual does not have their own gear there is team gear for all team members to use. The only other cost is for the individual to provide 6 cans of Soft Drink or equivalent in water or sports drink for re-hydration purposes during and after the games. There may also be occasional after match BBQ’s where players may be asked on a roster to bring food.
